Commissioning Engineer - Water & Wastewater\n\nSurrey & London (with site travel as required)\n 45 hours per week\n\nOverview\n\nWe are seeking an experienced Commissioning Engineer to join a major main contractor delivering complex water and wastewater process engineering projects. This role is critical to ensuring safe, compliant, and right‑first‑time installation, testing, and commissioning from design through to handover.\n\nYou will play a leading role across the full commissioning lifecycle, working closely with design teams, suppliers, subcontractors, and client stakeholders to deliver high‑quality outcomes.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nCommissioning & Technical Delivery\n\nProvide full lifecycle commissioning input from design through installation, testing, commissioning, and handover.\nDevelop and implement commissioning plans, procedures, and documentation.\nUndertake hands‑on commissioning activities across electrical, mechanical, and process systems.\nLead and witness FAT and SAT activities, managing defect close‑out.\nReview and interpret electrical/mechanical schematics, FDS, P&IDs, and initiate design changes where required.\nConfigure and calibrate analytical equipment and integrate with monitoring systems.\nTroubleshoot issues using structured, analytical problem‑solving techniques.Installation & Site Activities\n\nCoordinate and supervise installation and commissioning activities, including third‑party engineers.\nAct as front‑line supervisor during installation and commissioning phases.\nEnsure quality, snag‑free installation and commissioning delivery.\nVerify equipment is FAT tested and snag‑free prior to site delivery.\nEnsure capture and documentation of installation, testing, and commissioning data.Safety, Quality & Compliance\n\nPromote and implement SHEQ behavioural improvement initiatives.\nReview and approve RAMS for commissioning activities.\nEnsure compliance with standards, statutory legislation, ITPs, and safety rules.\nApply best practice, technical bulletins, and lessons learned consistently.Management, Reporting & Stakeholder Engagement\n\nMonitor supply chain performance against KPIs/KPMs and drive improvement.\nContribute to and manage inputs to the overall project programme.\nProduce timely progress and status reports for senior management and the Core Management Team.\nContribute to client reports and management briefings.\nSupport Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) through site surveys and system reviews.\nDeliver training to client operations and maintenance teams. \n\nQualifications & Experience\n\nEssential\n\nExperience working for a main contractor on water and wastewater process engineering projects.\nHNC / Degree in a relevant Engineering discipline or engineering apprenticeship with NVQ and multi‑discipline experience.\nMinimum 3 years' experience in a commissioning role within the water industry.\nStrong knowledge of electrical and mechanical installation and commissioning processes.\nECS (CSCS) Card.\nWater Hygiene Card.\nSSSTS or SMSTS.\nBS7671 18th Edition.\nFirst Aid at Work.
